Removals & Remediation

Why aren't the items I asked to be removed immediately gone?

It can be frustrating to see personal information remain visible after you've asked for it to be removed. While Hush maintains a 97% success rate across the vulnerabilities we process, removals are rarely immediate. The average time from a submitted removal request to verified removal is approximately 90 days, with some completed in as little as a few days and others taking up to 180 days.

Every Organization Has Its Own Removal Process

When Hush submits a removal request, the request enters the website's own review and processing workflow. Each organization has different identity verification requirements, privacy policies, documentation standards, and processing timelines. There is no universal requirement requiring websites to remove personal information within a specific timeframe.

Some providers review requests automatically, while others require manual approval, additional documentation, or multiple rounds of verification before removing information.

Verification and Processing Take Time

Many counterparties require proof of identity or authorization before processing a request. In some cases, Hush must provide additional documentation, respond to follow-up requests, or wait for the organization to complete an internal review before a removal can be finalized.

Even after a request has been approved, many websites update their public databases on a scheduled basis rather than immediately. As a result, your information may continue appearing online until the website's next publication or refresh cycle.

Hush Continues Working After Your Request is Submitted

Submitting a removal request is only the beginning of the process. Our team tracks requests, follows up with counterparties when necessary, verifies successful removals, and escalates requests when providers require additional information or exceed expected processing timelines.

If an item remains visible, it does not necessarily mean no progress has been made. In many cases, the request is still actively being processed by the third party.

Our Goal is Verified Removal, Not Just Submission

At Hush, our responsibility extends beyond simply sending removal requests. We continue working until the information has been verified as removed whenever possible. While the timeline ultimately depends on the third party processing the request, our team actively manages the process on your behalf so you don't have to.

If you have questions about a specific removal request or would like an update on its status, our Member Services team is always available to provide additional information and support.
