What Is Your Digital Footprint?
Each time you use the internet, you leave a trail of data behind. That trail includes websites you have visited, emails you have sent, searches you have conducted, photographs you have posted, and more. This information — collected in aggregate — can be used to build a profile of you that an unauthorized party could exploit to cause physical (e.g., stalking), financial (e.g., identity theft), or reputational harm.
Even if you have taken steps to protect your online presence — such as setting social media accounts to private and using varied passwords — you could still be leaving a passive digital footprint. For example, websites could install cookies on your device without your awareness, data brokers could collect and sell information like your address and phone numbers, and family members could post photographs to their social media accounts — all of which could be used by a threat actor.
Hush identifies any pieces of information that are publicly visible, determines which ones put you at risk, and helps you take steps to remove them from the internet.
